(If you didn’t take the first Vineyard trivia test click here for it)
See this. It’s an envelope from the Steamship Authority. Know what’s in it ? FERRY TICKETS. For us. Soon. The anticipation of an MV trip is an important part of the process of going to the Vineyard.
See this. It’s one of my MV traveling bags. I hate packing but somehow when it’s MV I’m going to it’s not quite as bad. Not quite.
See this. It’s a shot of the ferry Martha’s Vineyard. We’re getting ready to drive on board and head to the Vineyard… I can’t keep from smiling.
See this. It’s our car. On the ferry. We are on our way to the Vineyard.
See this. We are standing on the deck of the ferry. We are turning into Vineyard Haven harbor. That’s West Chop lighthouse there in the distance. Soon it will be time to get in the car and set tires on the Vineyard.
These photos obviously are from previous trips as we haven’t made our upcoming one yet. The packing, the drive, the exhileration, the pure and simple pleasures and the a-n-t-i-c-i-p-a-t-i-o-n however are always the same.
This is Bradys NESW Bed & Breakfast in Oak Bluffs. Besides graciously welcoming two-legged guests, Bradys welcomes four-legged guests with open arms/paws. This charming Victorian home has been in Bradys family since the 1920’s.
Meet Amie, and she’s the official greeter and happily showed us to our room.
Our dog Chappy quickly settled onto the window seat.
The views from our room on the second floor were stunning.
I love how the sun came in every morning and illuminated this corner.
The staircase leading downstairs. It was a little tricky for Chappy’s paws but he mastered it in no time.
Bradys location is ideal. He’s located on a quiet street a half block from the beach and less than a mile to the center of Oak Bluffs.
Staying at Bradys is like staying at the home of a friend. There are charming displays of memorabilia in every room… and a story to go with almost everything. Brady is a wealth of Vineyard information, he can guide you with what to do and see and what not to miss. There are four rooms at Bradys. The West room (pictured in this post) has its own bath.
Bradys NESW is a good place to escape from stress and the constant barrage of today’s wired world. Read a book, watch a movie from Brady’s vast collection – listen to a CD of show tunes, jazz, folk, and classical selections – there’s a fireplace to curl up next to – there’s a cable TV in the living room - and a beautiful porch with comfy rocking chairs to relax on. There are no phones in the room but I’ve been told there is wifi access. If you’re looking to get away from it all this is the place for you.
We certainly enjoyed our stay there and will definitely return.

Martha’s Vineyard/Hudson Valley Fiber Farms has good and not so good news.
First the good news… the Lamb cam is up and running and you can watch the sheep and goats to your hearts content. Careful though, it’s addicting
The not good news is that there won’t be an MV Fiber Festival on the Vineyard this April. You can read Susan’s blog post about it by clicking here.
But wait, there’s still good news… their Hudson Valley Fiber Farm IS having its Shearing Day on May 9th.
In honor of the anniversary of my mother’s birthday today, my post is about her mother, my grandmother, who was the reason Martha’s Vineyard came to be in our lives.

(My mother and grandmother)
My grandmother, Albra Mae Flewellyn Littlefield Grant Baird, was born in Maine. She was widowed twice, her third husband, Arthur Baird Sr was an Islander who was left to raise two sons, Floyd and Arthur Jr, and a daughter, Hattie, after his first wife died. My grandmother and my mother Maude came to live on Martha’s Vineyard in Oak Bluffs and thus began our connection and love of the Vineyard.
I don’t know a lot about my grandmother’s life after moving to the Vineyard except that she was busy raising four rambunctuous children, keeping house for her husband and being active in community projects with her friends. She died before my parents were married so I never knew her but I feel a closeness to her whenever I’m on the Vineyard. She is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Bluffs.,
Last March both Deb and I did posts about my mother. Click here for mine and click here for Deb’s beautiful post. Click here for a post about the spirit of the women pictured above !!
