Here they are.  A new batch of Espresso Love blueberry scones delivered to me by my new friend Kathryn.

Unwrapped and looking luscious.

I just happened to have an EL bag (or 2 or 3) so I put the scones in one for a photo.  Then I separated them, four went in the freezer and two …

… were placed on dishes.  I just had one with tea, the other is for my daughter Deb.  My tastebuds are beside themselves with the  joy of fresh blueberry scones.

Kathryn is a delight and we can’t wait to get together again.  There’s definitely no lack of things to talk about with us, the Vineyard is of course top on the list of topics.   Thank you Kathryn, thank you, thank you, thank you.  Check out Kathryn’s blog ‘Thoughts Enroute’ by clicking here.

My post of a few days ago “The Lone Scone” prompted Kathryn, a new friend of mine to post about it on her blog “Thoughts Enroute”. You can read that post by clicking here.

I can’t wait to meet her at the end of the week.  I have a feeling they’ll be another follow up post about it.

I don’t know what possessed me to try poetry but here goes (fingers crossed)…

‘Ode To A Blueberry Scone’

~~~~
Sitting alone in my freezer…
The last of the scones I brought home…
Born in the kitchen of Espresso Love...
It waits and waits all alone.
~~
Once it was part of six…
Or maybe it was seven…
The fact of the matter is…
These blueberry scones are a taste of heaven.
~~
For ten months I’ve selfishly horded them…
Savoring them one at a time…
Feebly offering to share them…
Hoping the person would decline.
~~
There’s  something special about them…
Besides the way that they look and they taste…
They’re a connection to the Vineyard…
And not a crumb ever goes to waste.
~~
And so lonely scone…
Your turn will come soon…
After all…
For a new supply I must make room.
…muffins.  In honor of the inauguration of our new president, Barack Obama, I would like to introduce you to….tah dah… the Presidential Muffins  (patriotic – but non partisan) created by Carol McManus of Espresso Love.  She created these lucious, delicious, blueberry and strawberry muffins when President Clinton was visiting Martha’s Vineyard.  You can find the recipe in her book “Table Talk.
My daughter Deb made a batch of Presidential Muffins the other day… they’re long gone but definitely not forgotten.
Anyone who knows me, or reads my blog, knows what a big fan of Espresso Love I am.  You can read here my blog post last February about my obsession with EL’s blueberry scones.. and how I bring them back from MV and hoard them in the freezer.  We bring their coffee beans home too because it’s not just the scones, it’s the COFFEE as well. In our opinion Espresso Love has the best coffee on MV.
Imagine my surprise and delight when I found out Carol McManus, the owner of EL, was going to be in NJ today doing a book signing for her new cook book, Table Talk: Food, Family, Love, A Cookbook. The book signing was at Pennington Market, only a little over an hour away, so that’s where Deb and I headed this morning.
We saw Carol as soon as we walked in, she recognized me and greeted me with a big hug.  I introduced my daughter Deb and we chatted about blueberry scones, among other things.  We picked up ingredients for Carol’s lemon meringue pie, which Deb will assemble since she’s the baker in the family.
It was nice to see Carol and pick up her beautiful cookbook. As always I look forward to saying ‘hi’ to her when I stop in at Espresso Love for my supply of blueberry scones and coffee beans.
This was the second weekend in a row with an MV connection... I guess if I can’t get there then it’s coming to me in dribs and drabs.  <grin>
Update: Lemon Meringue Pie
Deb made the pie this afternoon.  The consensus is that Carol’s recipe is one of the best we’ve ever tasted.
Espresso Love in Edgartown is my favorite breakfast place.
I love their blueberry scones so much that I bring them back home to NJ and freeze them.  The scone pictured above in all its delicious glory I saved for breakfast on my birthday.  The stash is now gone but definitely will be replaced.  Often we have Espresso Love coffee beans, that wasn’t the case this year but we do have EL mugs to complete the experience.   A few years ago for my birthday my daughter Deb contacted Espresso Love and ordered a dozen blueberry scones, coffee beans and the above mugs to be sent to me.  Imagine my surprise and delight when I opened the box and there was my favorite breakfast from my favorite breakfast place on my favorite Island.
Espresso Love isn’t just coffee and scones they serve lunch and in the summer casual evening dining in the garden.   If you’re on MV check it out for yourself… you’ll be glad you did.   Can’t you just smell the coffee now………………  ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
